For those needing to get in touch with me for business reasons or for those just curious about what’s happening in my little bit of paradise, we’ve been hit with yet more snow. But that’s okay. As I write this, I’ve got a guy plowing the driveway out so I can get down. The street below has already been plowed so there shouldn’t be much problem there. So… life’s good, huh?
Well, yesterday we had a fun little issue related to heat. We didn’t have any
We have been using an auxiliary propane tank, which has served well. But we knew it was only a matter of time before it ran out. What we didn’t count on was a propane leak inside the house. How did I find out about this? Well, when I got home from running some errands yesterday I smelled propane. It helped that the propane guy was still outside and let me know that when he tried to bleed the line he detected it and shut things down.
Fast forward to today and we’ve come to find out that things keep getting better. The propane guy told us to call up the company to have a tech come out to help fix things. We did that and found out that we had to call a furnace company instead, because the propane company is only responsible for getting gas to the house. Called the furnace place to find out that we need a propane specialist. Hmm… see where this is going?
Anyway, we finally did get both a propane and a furnace guy to come out and see us on rather short notice. But a new problem was thrown our way. When the propane guy shut things down yesterday, he managed to take some piping along with him from our auxiliary tank. And in doing this he managed to remove the “flare” off of one of the fittings into the main tank’s regulator. So, we have gas. We have the leak in the house fixed and now we have a leak at the tank.
Not sure if the propane guy is going to return today or not. But with the report of single digit temps tonight, I’m not allowing us to go without heat. We may see how good some of my early military training was. I started off life as a Nuclear Machinist Mate. Doing flared fittings was pretty commonplace. But it’s been just a few years since I’ve had to do them. Needless to say there is a skeptic over here of my abilities.
With all that is going on, I have determined that expecting to accomplish much isn’t very practical for today. I need to tend to my survival instincts. We are expecting plenty of sun and warm weather tomorrow, so I’m optimistic about that. But all of the interruptions, calls, visits, etc. are just a bit much for today.
If you are depending on work from me, I apologize for the inconvenience this may pose. But then again, you probably had me working on some of your stuff on Christmas day or on New Years. I rarely take such time off. And I’ll likely resume work this evening when I have heat again and my fingers have defrosted.
Take care and have a great weekend!

The earlier post for Jan.5 is very funny. I love that kind of dry humor, and I hope you left it blank intentionally, for a joke, but it is funny either way.
