You know, a list that is not inclusive of The Shawshank Redemption is…

Great list. Some are my favorites too, but others I haven’t seen.
You should read Chuck Yeager’s autobiography. His role back then was quite different than as portrayed in The Right Stuff. Although it’s still one of my favorites too.

Umm….well, I LOVED Meet Joe Black. Definately one of my favorites!
Dodge Ball is funny, there are some very funny and then some very just *wrong* scenes, lol.
Sheesh…you seem to have a thing for baseball movies, eh?

Field of Dreams is one of my favourites…I still get weepy when I watch it. And I can quote parts of it too.
Dude…I could hardly read the purple colour against the black. My eyes are throbbing. LMAO.

Hoop loves “Major League.” Me? I’m a “Wedding Crashers” kind of gal. Great list! I’d have to add the classics:
Goonies
Legend (Although I refuse to watch Tom Cruise anymore)
Dark Crystal
Princess Bride
Willow

- Chelle: Thanks Hon!
- David: Sorry about that
I just never really got into that movie enough. Don’t get me wrong. I like it, but it’s not one that wish to watch over and over again.
- John: I hadn’t read it, but am now tempted. I do not read fiction, but I do love biographies. I might just get a hold of it.
- EE: Nerd! I don’t have a thing for baseball movies. LOL! I just to like these ones. There are others I forgot to mention too.
- mamaT: I changed the font just for you
I hope it’s easier to read now. Really, I do. If not, let me know.
- Tink: Goonies was pretty great. I never got into Legend. Didn’t see Dark Crystal. Chelle can’t believe I’ve never seen Princess Bride. And Willow was good, though I don’t remember anything about it.
I think Goonies is that only one we own. I’m not sure why I don’t watch it more often, though I will watch it when it’s on TV.

Mike, I remember that night too. Oh, those happy memories, huh?

Goonies ROCKED. I loved that movie. I made my daughter watch that movie just a bit ago. Good freaking movie

WHY is it that just about every man I know loves the Red October movie!? That and Platoon… I just dont’ get it. Then again, I’m not into war movies… or Westerns… or Sci-Fi… Yes I realize I’m getting off topic here!
07/09/2006 at 9:58 pm Permalink
Mike, I liked Red October, but was a bit of a letdown in relation to the book (I know everyone says that to make themselves sound smart, like, “Look how much I read!” but it’s really true here.) Actually for submarine movies, I really like “Crimson Tide” with two of my favorite actors, Gene Hackman and Mr. Washington. I cry in that one, by the way, when he has to shut off the bilge bay during the flooding.
BTW, I count “Braveheart” as a feel good movie. I also really like “The Incredibles”…
07/09/2006 at 10:07 pm Permalink
Sarah, I know you asked your question of Mike, but I’d like a shot at it.
We (men) like those kinds of movies because (almost) all of us have been made with a couple of very strong, built-in urges.
One of those, I won’t discuss in a public forum, but you can guess…
But the other one is to be a HERO. I know that sounds goofy and silly, but it’s true. So when a movie comes along that affirms that it’s okay to think that it might actually be a good thing to annihilate the bad guys, that appeals to us. And when you can do that and still be a really decent, honorable guy, like the hero in Cinderella Man, for instance, well we’re suckers for that stuff.
I could just as well ask why women go so ga-ga over stuff like “The Notebook,” but I realize the answer is the same, only directed at different, built-in desires.

- Chelle: Those were nice memories, huh?
- EE: It’s a cute movie and there’s a bunch of those that I missed on my list. Hmm…
- Sarah: I didn’t like Platoon and I don’t like most war movies. The one exception is We Were Soldiers. That one made me cry. But I don’t like the whole “soldiers are rapist scum” nonsense.
- Gordan: You’re right about the book, in this case
And I did like Crimson Tide as well, except I thought Denzel was a terrible XO.
And how could you find Braveheart a feel good movie. Look how he got killed in the end. Sheesh!
And you like the Incredibles bc…

Now THIS is one of the funniest exchanges I’ve ever seen, and it’s under a T13 MOVIE POST??? And I don’t even KNOW any of y’all!
“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” Cracked me up from the moment I saw the previews. Hated Wedding Crashers, though (hmmm, did it have anything to do with the fact I took my women’s accountability group to see it??? All those nekkid shots in the beginning, and I can’t believe I didn’t walk us outta there…”). Shawshank, agree w/David…but not easy to watch, esp. over & over. Guess you aren’t into romantic comedies? No “You’ve Got Mail” which somehow seems to fit this exchange above…
btw, I noticed the Linguist Quiz thingy NEVER adds up to 100% for anyone (lol)…
26/11/2006 at 1:10 pm Permalink
Wedding Crashers was one of my favorite flicks last year. Owen and Vaughn were hilarious!
